Review

AusLogics Disk Defrag is a handy disk defragmentation tool that prevents your system from crashing, slowing down, shutting down, and failing. It supports FAT 16, FAT 32, and NTFS volumes. When the process is complete, the program displays a brief report of the activity (the fragmentation level before and after, the number of files skipped, the number of files that have been defragmented, etc).

I have to point that the version being reviewed (1.3) is not the most recent (in fact, is rather old), but offers some interesting features as compared to the older ones, like the ability to remove temporary files before defragmentation and to set the resource usage (low, normal, high). The disk defragmentation speed, GUI design and disk fragmentation map have been improved. Several Windows Vista fonts and bugs have been fixed and it includes some important optimizations.

However, although this program is a little faster and has a more user-friendly and attractive interface, it really does not seem to have any significant advantages over the standard Windows defragmenter.
Advantages
  • Many improvements from previous versions.
  • Nice and intuitive user interface.
  • Fast.
Disadvantages
  • No significant advantages over the standard Windows defragmenter.

For a while, I had both auslogics and IoBit defrag programs on my system. I had used Auslogics for quite some time (like years - not days). It was efficient and fast but did not have the optimize and "shut down" the computer when done options. So IoBit was on my system for those features. So I would run auslogics for the most part and would run smart defrag occasionally to take advantage of the optimize feature. The new Auslogics has included an optimize and a "shutdown" after running (for the cleanup and clearout crowd). Ergo, I removed IoBit smart defrag and still remain faithful to auslogics defrag. Try it - you might like it.
